I recently reviewed the book Internee Number 6, a wartime diary written by Maria Eisenstein and newly translated by Will Schutt. It's a different kind of WW2/Holocaust memoir in that the author, an Austrian-born Jew, was arrested and jailed while living in Italy. While Eisenstein's experience is vastly different than that of many European Jews, who were sent to death camps, it is super fascinating to read about her Italian experience. She also has a really unique authorial voice that bounces between angry, sarcastic, guarded, and scared. Click HERE for the full review!
